My family comes from the Loch Lomond area and I have, sadly, been the first generation to grow up away from it. Anyway, over the past year I have been trying to piece together a history of my family and its connections in the Balloch, Helensburgh and Tarbet area.
In particular, and where I hope someone on this Forum can help, there is some connection with the Tarbet Hotel. I believe that at some point, it was owned in the family. I am not sure when this would have been, but almost certainly before the First World War. Sadly, all the family members who would have been able to answer this have passed on. I am afraid that I do not even know which branch of the family it would have been, but the surname would have been either Davie or Partington - both of whom probably (Davie certainly) hailed from Balloch.
All I have now is a collection of silverware and other memorabilia which once upon a time I was told came 'from the hotel'.
If anyone can help with a potted history of the hotel I would be very grateful. Otherwise, if anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated. I am afraid it seems very hard getting any hard information about the hotel, only that it was built some time between 1810 and 1837 (depending on the source) and is now owned by WA Shearings!
Many thanks
